Companion Droid
A small personal companion inspired by the expressive, approachable character of classic science-fiction utility robots. A planned platform, dependent on the development of the Rydell Droid Runtime.
A machine to accompany you.
The first intended physical platform is a companion—not a household cleaner, industrial automation system, or autonomous exploration robot. Its purpose is presence, interaction, and a recognizable behavioral character.
RDR would provide its intelligence: understanding speech internally and communicating through expressive electronic sounds. Mobility and physical interaction would build on that software foundation.

Interaction, familiarity, continuity.
The following are engineering objectives for a future platform, not promises of completed features.
- Recognize and respond to its owner
- Understand spoken commands and conversation
- Communicate through expressive electronic sounds
- Recognize familiar people and pets
- Follow and accompany its owner
- Navigate around obstacles
- Remember interactions and familiar environments
- Develop recognizable behavioral consistency over time
Understandable. Repairable. Yours.
Practical components.
Explore affordable single-board computers, accessible fabrication and assembly, and modular, replaceable parts. Customization and repairability should be part of the architecture.
Everyday serviceability.
Investigate rechargeable internal batteries and practical charging connections. Wireless charging or autonomous docking are possible research directions, not committed features.
Software before hardware.
Physical integration follows the intelligence foundation. Mobility, sensors, power management, and environmental awareness require experimentation on a future working prototype.
